Finally got to watch this. Totally in love with it. :)

    fuckyeadance:

    And now introducing…

No Gentle Men Allowed is my interpretation on the human desire of wanting to get closer to someone we are constantly craving. I pursued this concept with a long take approach, which represents a point-of-view journey of one man going into one woman’s thoughts. A carefully mapped out path for the camera man and I were put to the test with each take.

This creative process started in November of 2011 after being inspired to breathe life into one of my favorite Corinne Bailey Rae songs - Closer. Going into my first video project, my main focus was gathering a handful of my own personal inspirations dating as far back as 2003 and unite them all on the same floor, a small dream I never thought would come true. A few of these women I even managed to pull out of dance retirement while some I had never worked with as a director. To help enhance the required mood of this piece, I requested that every single dancer come to rehearsal with their own personal “target” in mind, someone that they would perform to in their head as a means of wanting to get closer to them. I wanted to keep things simple while at the same time, challenge myself somehow  by taking on a new human emotion that I have never tackled as an artist. I also knew I wanted to portray my inspirations as classy, sensual and alluring women. Filming the main sequence in one take also came with its own challenges and has given me a whole new perspective of directing dance. This experience has made me appreciate the art of film so much more and I hope to explore further within this territory.

I hope you enjoy this special video as much as we all enjoyed creating it together. Please know that it was made with a lot of love! A big thank you to my entire cast and production team for this humbling and memorable learning experience I will always cherish. Ladies - you are all amazing on AND off the dance floor. Thanks for taking this journey and moving with me.

    Cheers, Philip

Help VIPSJ perform in Las Vegas!

    vipsj:

    About the Opportunity

Our dance crew, VIPSJ, has the opportunity to perform at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas, NV. This performance is an amazing opportunity for us as a crew but also for us to improve ourselves as dancers and artists. Because we were only founded a few years ago, we are continuously making an effort to establish ourselves as prominent figures in the Bay Area dance community. Being able to perform at such a large venue will be a huge step for us to gain visibility and credibility as artists.

About VIP San Jose & Public Figures

Established in January of 2009, C.E.O. of PUBLIC FIGURES (VIPSJ, VIP Breakers, MVPSJ, & BlockRockas), Krisuan Rosalejos wanted to establish an outlet for those who share the same interest and passion in dance. PUBLIC FIGURES are visionary dance crews, providing versatility and interpretation of artistic expressions in dance & share their vision within the industry and dance community. We strive for excellence and perfection. Not just in dance, but in our everyday lives. We will always better ourselves and always move forward. And that’s what makes us PUBLIC FIGURES.

What We Need & What You Get

In addition to dancing, majority of our team also works, goes to school, and has extremely tight financial situations. In order to take advantage of this opportunity, we need travel funds to get us there. The $3000 we are aiming for would cover our travel expenses to get there and back and would make this performance much less of a financial burden on our members.

Of course any amount you would like to contribute is greatly appreciated, but we have some suggested amounts below as well as what we can offer you in thanks.

    $1 Donation
$5 gets a Shoutout on the VIPSJ Facebook Page
$10 gets a free Swanshop Class taught by one of our very own choreographers!
$20 gets a free Swanshop Master Class taught by taught by a prominent guest choreographer
$30 gets TWO free Swanshop classes of your choice!
$40 gets a free VIPSJ Sweatshirt (wonderful gift idea)
$50 All of the above! Get a free sweatshirt and a free swanshop class of your choice!

Any of these incentives are transferable! e.g. If you donate $10, you can gift the free Swanshop to a friend, family member, or random person of your choice!

    Other Ways You Can Help

If you can’t contribute, but know someone who can, pass this campaign along! We appreciate any additional help getting the word out there!
Please help us out! We’ll love you forever!!

I wish we had these words in English.
caleykush:

Words that don’t exist in the english language:
L’esprit d’escalier: (French) The feeling you get after leaving a conversation, when you think of all the things you should have said. Translated it means “the spirit of the staircase.”
Waldeinsamkeit: (German) The feeling of being alone in the woods.
Meraki: (Greek) Doing something with soul, creativity, or love.
Forelsket: (Norwegian) The euphoria you experience when you are first falling in love.
Gigil: (Filipino) The urge to pinch or squeeze something that is unbearably cute.
Pochemuchka: (Russian) A person who asks a lot of questions.
Pena ajena: (Mexican Spanish) The embarrassment you feel watching someone else’s humiliation.
Cualacino: (Italian) The mark left on a table by a cold glass.
Ilunga: (Tshiluba, Congo) A person who is ready to forgive any abuse for the first time, to tolerate it a second time, but never a third time.
